As a follow up to your answer about makeup, what is your skin care regimen? I feel we’re at an awkward mom stage. We don’t have time for ourselves, but do need to take care of ourselves. So what do you use for cleanser and moisturizer? Are we old enough that we need anti aging??
Ok, right?? Aren’t we in the weirdest skin stage yet right now? Like I sometimes still break out, and also I for the first time am noticing little “crinkles” by my eyes when I smile. I don’t know the rules. I am not a skin-care guru or a dermatologist or a seller of skincare products. But I AM a beauty product savvy girl who has tried A LOT of products, so I will share with you my faves.
Both oily in spots and dry in others. Sometimes I break out, almost exclusively on my chin. Sometimes those are the deep, painful, under skin zits, sometimes just a few whiteheads here and there. My skin is not super sensitive – I’ve grown up around people who have super sensitive skin so I’ve always been very wary of the products I use being gentle, but as I’ve branched out more I haven’t had many bad reactions.
Morning: Wash face. Every other day use an exfoliating wash. Apply daytime moisturizer and lip treatment.
Evening: Remove makeup. Wash face. Apply nightcream and lip treatment.
Weekly: Exfoliate lips, apply a face mask.
Fresh Seaberry Cleansing Oil
I got this as a free sample with some purchase, and it literally sat in my bathroom for months before I used it. The sample I got had enough to wash my face a couple times, and I was hooked right away. It is a totally different feeling washing your face with an “oil”, but I loved it. It is fantastic at taking off makeup, and leaves my skin super soft and clean. That being said, it is way outside my comfort zone, price wise – my mom bought me a full-size bottle for my birthday but I don’t think I could have been convinced to spend this much on my own! I have been using it since the end of April and still have quite a bit left, so it does last pretty well! It just feels like a more “real-life fancy adult” product. I feel fancy washing my face with expensive oils 😉 (also available through fresh.com and Sephora)
Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream
My OG lotion. I have been using this since I was a teenager on my entire body. It’s still for sure my go-to lotion when I have extra dry or irritated skin ANYWHERE or after I shave my legs. It’s super gentle and non-irritating, extra moisturizing, and unscented. On my face, I use this on my eyes, nose, and around my lips every night when I wash my face. I know this is a bit bizarre, but I’ve done it forever and these are the parts of my face that need extra moisture. Also? It lasts for freaking ever. I’m on a buying every 3 years type plan. (also available at most drug stores)
Almay Eye Makeup Remover Pads (longwear and waterproof)
No matter what eye-makeup remover I try, nothing comes close to this! The mascara I use is always either longwear or waterproof, so I have to have a makeup remover that takes it off with no problem. Its super moisturizing as well which I think is sooo important for your eyes! Takes my makeup off super quickly, smoothly, and easily without making my eyelashes fall out! Because we are getting old! Lets not be getting rid of eyelashes all willy nilly! 😉 (also available at most drug stores)
Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash
Another OG product – I’ve been using this face wash since I was like 15. It’s the real deal. So, so gentle. I just can’t say anything bad about it. Also super cheap and completely non-irritating. (also available at most drug stores)
Aveeno Positively Radiant Skin Brightening Daily Scrub
I’ve been using this face wash in the shower for at least ten years, and my husband uses it every day as well. I think we all need a little exfoliating every now and then to clear away dead and dull skin at the surface and this formula has always been gentle yet effective, even on my husband’s super sensitive skin. (also available at most drug stores)
Fresh Sugar Lip Polish
Just recently started using lip exfoliators over the past couple years and I LOVE THEM. This one instantly works to make your lips smooth and moisturized. If you are a girl who loves lipstains or longwear lipstick, YOU NEED TO USE AN EXFOLIATOR. It will make such a big difference in the results of the color on your lips. I love, love, love Lush (lushusa.com) lip exfoliators as well – they last forever and taste INCREDIBLE. This Fresh one I like because it is also moisturizing. (also available at fresh.com and Sephora)
Fresh Sugar Nourishing Lip Balm Advanced Therapy
Another thing I got suckered into with a free sample! I cannot go to sleep without a heavy lip moisturizer on. I just can’t. This one is to die for. Definitely on the pricier end, but in my opinion completely worth it. I use it every single morning and night and sometimes even during the day. Its feels incredible. Makes your lips so soft and smooth and moisturized and amazing. (also available at fresh.com and Sephora)
Clinique Turnaround Overnight Revitalizing Moisturizer
I just started using a night cream one year ago. Up until that point I was just using an Aveeno daytime moisturizer with sunscreen on my face before bed. Kinda makes me cringe now. The first night cream I tried was the Younique night cream, and I really, really liked it. I tend towards oilier skin and I was worried about what a super moisturizing night cream would do to my skin, but it has done nothing but make my skin so much prettier and in better shape. I also tried a Fresh Black Tea overnight cream and loved it as well. Downside to both were the price. So I tried some drugstore brand overnight creams and they were TERRIBLE. I mean, they didn’t destroy my skin, but they certainly didn’t do anything beneficial either and felt icky on. This is one area I would say definitely spending a little more is worth it.
Anyway, my most recent try was this Clinique overnight cream and it is by far and away my fave. It makes my skin look and feel just incredible. You can read the scienc-y stuff on it, the salesgirl told me it basically is supposed to stimulate cell turnover overnight. I don’t know or care so much about that, but my skin feels incredible when I use it. And yes I’m almost out 😬 (also available at Sephora and Clinique)
No 7 Beautiful Skin Day Cream (Normal/Oily)
This has been my biggest struggle, attempting to find a face lotion for daytime use under makeup. I tried a Younique moisturizer for normal to oily skin and I really liked it a lot, but I just didn’t want to spend that much money on something I went through so quickly. I tried several other brands and wasn’t really satisfied, and finally picked up this one on a whim at Target one night. I love it. It is perfect for skin that tend towards oily, it actually keeps the oil very much under control throughout the day but also keeps my skin moisturized and has sunscreen, which is an absolute must for me! (available at most drug stores)
Josie Maran Whipped Mud Masks
I just started doing masks over the past year as well. These are by far my favorites – I got the most adorable little gift set with all the different scents together (Sweet Basil Mint, Cucumber Aloe, Vanilla Apricot, Lavender Citrus, and Sweet Citrus) CAN YOU SAY YUM. These masks all smell beyond delicious, are actually pretty colors, and are both exfoliating and moisturizing as well as detoxifying. They are SUCH a treat. If you want a weekly treat yo self ritual, these have got to be your go-to. (also available at Sephora)
Younique Detoxifying Mask
This is a bamboo charcoal detoxifying mask I have been using for almost a year. I won it in a contest, and it is a little on the pricey side, but it definitely lasts much longer than I expected. What I love about it is how clean my skin feels after using it, and the bubbling sensation that you get when you put it on your skin and it starts working. (available at youniqueproducts.com or from a Younique presenter)
So that’s it! These are the products I use and love. Every person’s skin is different but these have made me a happy camper. If you have any questions or suggestions drop them in the comment section!
